I have been working in the Caregiver Industry since 2004 when I first took a job as a Personal Support Worker for a retirement home. I later went on to work at a Long Term Care facility where In 2006 I was approached by the daughter of one of the residents and asked if I could spend some extra time with her mother. Her mother had early-onset dementia and was receiving the best care the home could provide however, her quality of living we agreed could be better. She needed someone who would give their undivided attention and provide companionship, one to one, with her mother when she was unable to visit. Ensure she was eating her food at mealtime and be taken for walks for example. I accepted and took on my first client and have been working privately for the families of elderly loved ones since. This type of work requires a tremendous amount of patients and compassion as the clients are not always on their best behavior but it is very rewarding knowing that I make a difference in the quality of their lives. I started "one 2 one Elder Care" because there is a need for more availability of Companions to families with elderly parents, spouses and siblings either in their own home or in a regulated facilities. The care we provide is non-medical assistance and companionship to enhance the lives of individuals who need one 2 one attention.
